What is Stroke Development?
- This class is designed to teach students to maintain proper freestyle and backstroke form without teacher assistance.
- The teacher to student ratio for this class is 1:4 or 1:5 depending on the students.
- 30 min or 45 min in length.
The Focus of this Class
- Proper side breathing for freestyle with less teacher assistance.
- Proper body position when coordinating arm movements and breathing.
- Perfecting the flutter kick.
- Proper arm movements for backstroke.
- Increasing endurance by swimming longer distances (up to 25 yards.)
- As in all of our classes safety skills will also be practiced. (Swimming without goggles, treading water, pop ups, introduction to diving, deep water retrieval, etc.)
Requirements for Stroke Development: Octopus, or Otter Achievement Level
- Child must have a good concept of freestyle ("2 big arms and ear").
- Child must be able to swim 30 feet unassisted and tread water for 1 minute.
- Must also be able to swim on their back without assistance.
- Must be comfortable swimming in deep water.
- Classes are optional 1x or 2x a week (you can mix and match the days).
